Administering medicine to dog This programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to gain the AMTRA Professional Certificate, leading to inclusion on the register of suitably qualified persons (SQPs). Once qualified, SQPs are eligible to authorise the sale of medicines classified as POM-VPS and NFA-VPS.

The course is delivered over three days, plus two days for examinations. Delivery is through participatory lectures, group exercises and visits to the University’s animal units.

The course is assessed by means of two written exams and an oral exam.

The subject areas covered will include the following:

  • anatomy and physiology
  • the biology of animal diseases and parasites
  • control of diseases and parasites of companion animals
  • legislation relating to sale and supply of animal medicines.
