The Forensic Science Research Group develops new methods and techniques to assist in solving crime scene and casework related problems.
The group works very closely on projects with forensic laboratories, police crime scene personnel and associated instrument/equipment suppliers, both in the UK and overseas.

- Instrumental analysis for drugs and fire and explosion investigation
- DNA fingerprinting
- Fingerprinting science
- Document authentication
- Dye and pigment analysis
- Physiology and post-mortem change
- Criminal investigation analysis
- Forensic anthropology
- Spectroscopic techniques (including Raman) and separation science
- Surface analysis
- Mechanical properties of biological materials.
