Introduction

This programme is distinctive and unique in that it provides strong theoretical concepts and methodological grounding in a state-of-the art facility, located in a region that is home to many food manufacturing businesses. Partnerships with these businesses allow students to benefit from job placements.

The MSc Food Manufacturing is an innovative programme which integrates science, technology, business and management. It equips students with the expertise and ability to undertake management roles in the food processing and manufacturing industries. Approximately 95% of jobs advertised in the food industry are in food manufacturing (Technical and Quality Management).

Facilities

Holbeach is the University of Lincoln's specialist campus for the food manufacturing sector. Strategically situated in South Lincolnshire, the campus serves the UK’s largest concentration of food manufacturing businesses located in the East Midlands and Eastern regions.

The Holbeach Campus has a wide range of facilities to support learning:

  • Extensive library facilities, with up to date reference books, journals and industry magazines, as well as an extensive range of e-books
  • ICT suite with access to computers allowing independent research and study
  • All classrooms are equipped with SMART boards and are housed in a modern setting
  • Analytical laboratories, supported by experienced technicians, equipped with gas chromatography, HPLC, NIR etc.
  • Test kitchen and sensory suite
  • Technical training centre and processing laboratory equipped with state of the art manufacturing plant including automated fresh food lines and robotic case packing, within a real factory setting
  • Academic staff have experience in senior positions in industry.

Links With Industry

The course utilises the excellent processing facilities of the University's National Centre for Food Manufacturing (situated at the University's Holbeach Campus). Students are exposed to the regional food manufacturing industries due to the close relationships which the University has established with the local food industries.
