Introduction
The MA in Digital Media is aimed at students wishing to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the digital media area, or for media professionals to ‘convert’ existing knowledge and expertise to accommodate and understand rapidly shifting and evolving digital technologies.
The media ‘landscape’ has undergone exponential change over the last decade and continues to develop and evolve with considerable momentum. The convergence of media forms and digital technologies signals an unprecedented revolution in media production and modes of distribution.
The internet and significant developments such as YouTube and BBC iPlayer are changing the way we consume media products in the 21st Century. New platforms are emerging, and in particular the ‘mobile web’, the ubiquitous mobile phone, is developing into an increasingly powerful ‘smart’ device, offering high-speed wireless connectivity to media networks, anywhere and everywhere. The highly successful iPhone has had unparalleled impact since its launch and the mobile platform is still being defined, opening up new avenues for development and exploitation.
The MA in Digital Media is aimed at students wishing to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the digital media area, or for media professionals to ‘convert’ existing knowledge and expertise to accommodate and understand rapidly shifting and evolving digital technologies.
Career Opportunities
The MA Digital Media programme also offers graduates from various disciplines the opportunity to develop their careers in a range of areas that require them to have an advanced level of knowledge, skills and understanding of new media technologies.
Entry Requirements
The normal entrance requirement is a good honours degree in a related discipline, however applicants with other backgrounds or what generally might be considered to be unrelated disciplines will be considered on an individual basis. All applicants would normally be able to demonstrate some experience and critical awareness of media practices along with an ability to critically engage in both production and writing. The course in its part- time mode maybe particularly suitable for working media professionals, artists, community arts professionals, teachers, or other professionals who wish to update their knowledge of new technologies and to extend their existing skills by engaging in critical practice and theory.
