Advanced Apprenticeship Agriculture, Equine and Riseholme College Riseholme - LincolnIntroduction
This is a practical programme, reflecting your chosen career path and the particular branch of industry in which you work.
You can choose to study options in the following:
- Livestock Production
- Crop Production
- Mixed Farming
- Poultry Production.
Entry Requirements
All applicants must be between 16 and 25* years of age on entry and need to be employed in the industry.
You will need one or more of the following:
- NVQ Level 2 in Agricultural Crops, Agricultural Livestock or Mixed Farming
- Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Agriculture (Crop Production; Mixed Farming; Livestock Production; Poultry Production)
- 3 GCSEs at grade C or above
- Equivalent level of relevant qualifications at Level 2 such as the Diploma in Environmental and Land-bases Studies, or vocationally related qualifications
- Sufficient practical experience
All candidates are expected to demonstrate that they are:
- Committed to a career in the industry
- Willing to take responsibility for their own learning and development
- Prepared to attend off-the-job training
- Able to achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Agriculture
*Candidates over 25 can access the components of the course but will have to make a contribution to fees
What Will You Study?
During your training, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in areas such as:
- Preparation and planting of sites
- Harvesting and storage of crops
- Pesticide application
- Monitoring and evaluation of feed and water for livestock
- Managing habitats
- Selection of livestock for sale or transfer
- Information technology
- Communication
- A range of optional units to match your chosen specification
Progress through the programme is monitored continuously to ensure that each apprentice maximises their potential by building on existing skills and developing new ones. This will lead to candidates demonstrating their competence within the work place.

How Will You Be Assessed?
Training is work-based, with ongoing practical assessments in your workplace and you will spend one day a week at College in classroom based lectures and tutorials. You will keep a portfolio of evidence of your practical ability, which will be regularly reviewed. Your progress through the programme is monitored continuously to ensure that you maximise your potential by building on existing skills and developing new ones.
What Can You Do After The Course?
Students successfully completing the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship could find full time employment at craftsman rate in all areas of the agricultural industry, as contractors or stockpersons. There will also be the opportunity to progress to a Higher Education programme.
