The Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture will provide you with a solid foundation for your future career development. You will be introduced to a range of skills required to work in a number of countryside related industries. This, combined with a comprehensive programme of developing both vocational and academic skills, aims to prepare you to meet the challenges provided within the countryside and its related areas.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of 4 GCSE's at grade D or above to include English and Maths. You must also demonstrate a good standard of literacy and numeracy. All applicants must be at least 16 years of age on entry. Other equivalent qualifications may be considered.
What Will You Study?
The course is a mixture of practical and theory using the college farm and equipment.
There is a period of work experience during the course. The purpose of the work experience is to provide you with a valuable insight into the day to day working of a related enterprise.
The subject areas covered will include the following:
- Work Related Experience in Agriculture
- Environmental and Land-based Business Management
- Assist with Agricultural Crop Production
- Introduction to Animal and Plant Husbandry
- Introduction to the Principles of Land-based Machines
- Conservation and Improvement of British Habitats
- Functional Skills.
How Will You Be Assessed?
Classroom-based lectures are used along with directed study to underpin the knowledge and skills learned during practical sessions. Your progress will be monitored continuously throughout the programme, and you will be assessed via the following means:
- Written assignments
- Practical assessments
- Projects
- Tutorial sessions.
What Can You Do After The Course?
The course is an end in itself, providing you with skills and knowledge to work in the land-based industry. Many students use the Level 2 Diploma as a stepping stone to further qualifications, some students remain within agriculture, while others develop skills in agricultural technology and animal care.
