The team offer a wide range of services across multiple disciplines with the advantage of a closely knit team allowing an interdisciplinary approach to support services, an essential for the modern athlete or team.

The team has developed a network of relationships with a wide variety of both individual athletes and teams wanting to improve their performance through the latest sports science technological advancements and testing.

The team also provide specialist health screening and exercise prescription from qualified health professionals to aid the quality of life and longevity.

  • Biomechanical Support

    Biomechanical support is offered by dedicated staff with a wealth of experience in the area of sports performance. The Human Performance Centre is equipped with the latest technological analysis equipment designed to assess aspects of technique, strength, power and force.

    Technique Analysis

    A range of services can be provided from simple data capture, using a single video camera to three-dimensional analysis of movement using high speed cameras or optoelectronic tracking systems. The analysis provides accurate representations and interpretations of the movements together with visual feedback that increases understanding and development of the coaches and athletes.

    Assessment of Muscle Strength and Force Production

    Assessment of dynamic muscle strength and function can be performed using the latest technological equipment. The assessment of muscle strength and force production has widespread applications in sport and exercise for the; measurement of muscle strength, assessment of training or rehabilitation programmes, prediction of performance and prevention of injuries.

    Performance Analysis

    The Performance analysis approach aims to enhance performance through systematic observations of movements and games that can be analysed with a view to facilitating change. One of the most important variables affecting learning and subsequent performance is feedback. This approach therefore provides valid and reliable records of performance to enhance the feedback provided to the coach and athlete/s.

  • Education

    The department currently work with a number of different partners providing a wide range of workshops in the key areas of strength and conditioning, fitness testing, psychological support, lifestyle management and nutrition. The workshops are tailored to a variety of performers, teams and coaches and are designed to;

    • provide the performer with the necessary skills and attributes to become an elite athlete.
    • educate coaches in disciplines of sport science to enhance their understanding and use of sports science within their practice.

  • Health Assessment & Prescription

  • Nutritional Support & Advice

    One-to-One

    A performance nutritionist will meet and advise clients on a regular basis. Each meeting will assess current diet, lifestyle and the demands of the client's particular sport. Included in this is a full anthropometric profile and body fat estimation if desired. Advice is generated and tailored around these 'tell-tale' signs which indicate current nutritional status.

    Group Education

    A nutritionist is available for workshop bookings which supply generate nutritional education material to large groups (sports clubs, county/district teams, professional bodies, coaches etc.). Key themes are 'practical sports nutrition' and how to 'eatwell' for performance.

    Bookings can be made on a ad-hoc basis or a regular weekly/monthly arrangement.  All consultancy advice is given by a Registered Nutritionist by the The Association for Nutrition to ensure quality standards and professional delivery.

  • Physiological Support

  • Psychological Support

    Psychological support is offered by dedicated staff with a wealth of experience in the area of sports performance, working to improve the mental aspects of performance on and off the playing field. The main areas the team specialise in are; confidence, cohesion, motivation, anxiety, relaxation, coping, mental imagery, dealing with injuries and concentration/focus.

    The structure to the support can be provided in one of two ways, one-to-one or to a team or group of performers. The support provided is by BASES accredited staff operating using the BASES code-of-conduct and provides strict confidentiality to clients, agreed before any consulting takes place.

    Successful support has been provided in a wide variety of sports including rugby, golf, tennis, archery, football, athletics, netball, boccia, cricket, canoeing and rowing.
