What is Lincoln Like?
There
is a great student community feel to Lincoln. The City and the
University are growing at a great rate and it’s easy for students to
feel at home and make friends.
Lincoln is a compact city where nothing is more than short walk away, even the countryside. It is generally a safe place to live and the environment has a sense of spaciousness.
Attracting over a million tourists a year, the City is an eclectic mix of old and new. Walking downward from the Cathedral and Castle area, the aptly named 'Steep Hill', with its speciality shops, will take you into the main shopping area of Lincoln, with the usual High Street retailers you find in every city. There is also a bustling market open throughout the week where you can get some real bargains.
"Lincoln is a great place to study and live. I'm sure that anyone who chooses to come to the University of Lincoln will enjoy it as much as I have". Orson Harry. USA.
The Campuses
'the most
dramatic transformation of a university in recent times'
The Times Student Guide 2005
Brayford Pool
In
1996 Lincoln's main campus was the first new city centre university
campus to be built in the UK in 25 years. It is located at
the heart of the City in a spectacular waterside setting looking uphill
to the impressive Lincoln Cathedral and Castle. During the last ten
years £75 million has been invested in the Brayford Pool campus.
In 2004 the University opened the Great Central Warehouse Library which won the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) East Midlands Regeneration Award in 2005.

Facilities are nothing short of astonishing and most are just 5 minutes from the city centre, so there's no need to bring a car. The main buildings on site include; Main Academic Building, Library, Architecture, Media and Communications Centre, Science Building, The Student Village, Sports Centre and the new Student Union building "The Engine Shed".
The Engine Shed is an extraordinary industrial re-development hosting
one of the regions largest cultural venues. “The Engine Sheds will
transform beyond recognition the University’s social provision for its
students, giving them a facility of which they can feel very proud,” -
University spokesman Jez Ashberry.
Cathedral Quarter
The
Lincoln School of Art & Design is located a few minutes walk away in the
Cathedral Quarter.
Being so close, LSAD students have access to all the main campus facilities.
The Buildings including Chad Varah House, Greestone Mount (pictured),
St Michaels Church and Thomas Parker House stretch from the Cathedral to
the city centre.
Riseholme
Riseholme
Campus, previously the Bishop of Lincoln's palace and now the
University's country seat, is just a few minutes away by car or bus.
Riseholme is a beautiful park setting for our agriculture,
animal-related and biological science courses.

University campuses can be found in the campus guide - click here.
