Help with funding your postgraduate study
University of Lincoln Alumni Scholarship

Who is eligible?
All Home/EU students enrolling on a Postgraduate Taught or Masters by Research
programme who have already completed an undergraduate degree at the University
of Lincoln.
How much will be discounted?
Eligible students will receive a discount up to a maximum of £1000 against the
entire course costs.
When will it be applied?
For full-time students, the £1000 discount will usually be applied in full at
first enrolment. Part-time students will receive a pro-rata discount equivalent
to the percentage of the full time course they are enrolling each academic year.
Therefore the discount may be spread over one or more years for part-time
students, until the maximum £1000 discount has been achieved.
Other postgraduate funding and help:
- UK Students
- Employer Sponsorship
- Loans
- Educational Trusts
- Research Councils
- Other Public Bodies
- Students Resident in European Union
Prospective students in need of funding are advised to start looking well before the start of their course - ideally at least a year ahead.
UK Students
Financial support for postgraduate study is not widely available, but there
are four main sources of funding:
- Sponsorship from industry
- Bank loan schemes
- Educational trusts
- Research councils and similar public bodies
Employer Sponsorship
Postgraduate sponsorship makes for well qualified, enthusiastic, committed employees and as a result an increasing number of employers are willing to fund or at least contribute to the costs of a postgraduate qualification. If your employer cant stretch to that they may want to help providing other forms of support - paid leave, money for course materials or help with examination fees.

enables students to borrow up to two-thirds of their pre-course salary
plus tuition fees. Repayments are deferred until the course has
finished.

Educational Trusts

Research Councils
There are six Research Councils offering awards for taught and research courses at Masters level and above. Amounts awarded vary, but all awards for UK students include tuition fees payable direct to the institution, plus a contribution towards maintenance, including travel, fieldwork and academic materials. Higher awards may be given to disabled students, mature students or those with dependants.
Research Councils do not accept direct applications from individuals, with the exception of the Economic and Social Research Council. The Councils give quotas of studentships to departments for approved programmes, then the departments select those that they feel are the most eligible. Lists of approved academic departments and courses are available directly from the individual Councils early in the year, the selection process usually takes place early summer, but deadlines for application may be considerably earlier. Those relevant to University of Lincoln programmes are listed.
