Social Policy Association 2010 conference:
Social policy in times of change
5th-7th July 2010
The University of Lincoln is hosting the Social Policy Association's annual conference in 2010, and again in 2011. The campus, which opened in 1996, is set on the waterfront of Brayford Pool, and is within easy walking distance of the centre of the city of Lincoln, perhaps best known for its beautiful cathedral, but with a history dating back to Roman times. The conference is being organised by a team from the University's School of Social Sciences and the Conference Office.
Plenary Speakers
Professor Peter Dreier (Occidental College, Los Angeles) – Audacity, hope, and public policy: An evaluation of the Obama Administration and American politics after 18 months
Dr Branko Milanovic (World Bank) – Global inequality: New results and implications for 21st century policy
Professor Ruth Lister (Loughborough University) – The age of responsibility: social policy and citizenship in times of change
Call for papers and symposia
We are grateful for all abstracts received to date for participation at the Social Policy Association Conference: Social Policy in times of change.
The call for papers is now closed, however we still welcome abstracts proposals to participate in the Postgraduate Stream of the conference until 19 March 2010.
For all paper givers who have had their papers accepted we require a copy of the full paper in PDF format by 18 June 2010 - this should be sent to spa2010@lincoln.ac.uk

Coffee breaks and lunch
Refreshments breaks and lunches will be served in the Atrium and Learning Landscape rooms where the publishers' stands will also be located.
Drinks reception, Monday 5 July 19:00-20:00
This will be held in the Mezz Bar of The Engine Shed at 19:00 and finish at 20:00, it will be followed by the conference dinner.
Conference dinner, Monday 5 July 20:00-23:00
The conference dinner will be held in the Engine Shed There will be a three course meal with wine, following which the President of the Social Policy Association, Nick Timmins, will give an address and present the Social Policy Association Awards.

Information for chairs and presenters
All of the conference rooms are equipped with a computer and data projector for the PowerPoint presentations which will have been uploaded onto the computer. The session chairs will keep the speakers strictly to the time schedule. In the unlikely event that a session chair does not show up at the start of a session we would ask the first speaker to assume the role of the chair and begin their presentation on time.

Travel Information
Road
Road access is via the A1 with intersections at Newark (A46) from the South and near Retford (A57) from the North. The city is 40 miles east of Nottingham on the A46 and 40 miles south of the Humber Bridge on the A15.
Car Parking
Car parking on the campus is very limited, and while it may be available to delegates, there will be a charge. We strongly advise those delegates who will be staying in on-campus accommodation to travel by public transport if possible.
Coach
Rail
Lincoln Central Station is only a few minutes walk from the campus and has regular services to cities such as Sheffield and Nottingham, as well as easy links to the East Coast Main Line via Newark. London Kings Cross is less than two hours away.
Air
Humberside Airport is 40 minutes away with domestic, European flights and international links available. East Midlands Airport is an hour's drive and Birmingham International an hour and a half.

Lincoln is a city with a significant history which can be clearly seen in the Norman castle, where one of the four remaining original Magna Carta documents can be viewed, the 900 year old cathedral, and The Collection, a museum which houses a wealth of artefacts from Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, and Roman, Saxon, Viking and Medieval eras.
