Welcome to the Centre for Educational Research and Development
The Centre for Educational Research and Development (CERD) is at the heart of the University's teaching and learning strategy. We offer popular postgraduate study programmes and short courses specifically targeted at education and teaching.
Our research strategy is to develop and advance the Centre’s reputation for high quality research both nationally and internationally and to be recognised by the academic, policymaking and practitioner communities as a centre for research excellence. The Centre has also supported and provided financial assistance to a number of innovative projects within the University.
CERD is a member of the prestigious University Council for Educational Administration.

Towards Teaching in Public - Reshaping the Modern University
"Towards Teaching in Public" explores the notion of higher education as a public good. There is a balance to be struck between the public and the private provision in higher education, and in theorising about the current crisis there is an imbalance in favour of the private. The contributors to this volume argue that university provision should not be shaped by the demands of marketization and privatisation, but instead promote equality, open access, student choice and a scholarship of teaching and learning
