National Centre for Food Manufacture
Students studying Food Science and Food Technology courses have access to specialist food manufacturing and testing equipment at the National Centre for Food Manufacture at the Holbeach campus.
Strategically situated in South Lincolnshire, the campus serves the UK’s largest concentration of food manufacturing businesses, and provides purpose-built facilities including:
- An information and communication technology (ICT) suite
- Teaching and seminar rooms
- A sensory evaluation suite
- Product development kitchen
- Food manufacturing hall
- Food microbiology and food chemistry analytical labs.
Holbeach Campus encourages innovation and knowledge transfer by engaging its people and resources in partnership with local companies to undertake technical projects tackling some of the challenges facing the food industry today. These projects include new product development and food testing.
The campus is non-residential and offers high quality part-time and distance learning courses to students who are generally engaged in full-time employment. The courses range from BSc in Food Science and Manufacture to specialist short courses accredited by professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. A range of business management options including post graduate courses are an integral part of the curriculum.
The well-qualified team at Holbeach has worked at all levels in the food industry and the teaching programmes are informed by the close association between the campus and local companies – from large multinationals to small niche market producers. Many of the courses provided at Holbeach can be delivered on site at students’ place of employment.
