Current position
Faculty Statistician, a role that provides :
- short courses
- blocks of specialised teaching
- clinics for postgraduate students and staff to discuss research issues
- advice on research design and analysis
- advice on software and training opportunities
- input to the Faculty’s ‘Research Ethics’ committees.
Biography
10 years experience in the application of statistical techniques to problems in toxicology, agriculture and market research.
4 years experience in the aerospace industry running training courses as support for Project Management software and within an aerospace project office.
Came to the University in 1992. Since 1997 served as Business Studies Programme Leader in Part-time and Full-time versions as a major Faculty role, including Admissions.
Practical Computing experience as a programmer and application of statistical packages ie Minitab, Genstat, Excel, SPSS and Minitab.
Teaching
University's Postgraduate and Undergraduate programmes in Business, Management, Project Management and Quality Management. Specialised subject content involves Statistics and Project Management. Overseas experience in Spain, Northern Ireland, Oman & Singapore.
Tutoring on externally examined professional Statistics courses (Institute of Quality Assurance, and Accountancy professional bodies ACCA & CIMA).
Module co-ordinator for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Quantitative Methods units and likewise for units in Project Management (including in work-based learning format).
Specialist in use of statistical methods in decision making, including risk, forecasting and experimental design.
Research Interests and Activities
Publications in Biological research and Agricultural Engineering.
Currently researching the impact of Inreach teams in the UK prison system since 2001.

Published in 2003 ‘Management Decision Making: Towards an Integrated Approach’, with Mark Teale, Vince Dispenza and Dave Currie, for Pearson Education.
