Bursaries

Bursaries are available to selected students on our BEng and MEng programmes. These generous financial packages include a payment each term to cover living costs, and the additional opportunity to take paid summer work-placements with Siemens.

Siemens will offer a significant number of bursaries to full time students following engineering courses at the University of Lincoln in 2012.

In order to be eligible for the Siemens Scholarship you will first need to apply to us through UCAS, received an offer to study here, and then accept the offer as first choice (CF). You will then be sent an application form and be invited to a Siemens Assessment Day.

Course Information

Turbine Blades

The BEng(Hons) and MEng(Hons) Engineering programme is organised around the core discipline areas of electronic and electrical, control and systems, and mechanical and materials engineering. As students progress through the programme, they will link these disciplines in an integrated and systematic manner, and demonstrate the ability to apply their skills on real-life engineering challenges in an innovative, critical and professional manner. Through a combination of common core modules, and specialised electives, undergraduates can focus their studies on Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Power and Energy, and Electrical, Control and Systems Engineering. The programme is structured to equip our graduates with the tools necessary to address the challenges they will face in a wide variety of career paths.

Course Aims

The programme aims to equip undergraduates with the fundamental engineering discipline knowledge and skills necessary to become a capable practising professional in a wide range of industrial, commercial and creative arenas.

All students complete a common first and second year course structure irrespective of later specialisations. At third- and fourth- year levels, elective modules are available to allow for specialisations in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Power and Energy) and Mechanical Engineering (Control Systems).

Industrial Engagement

A great deal of effort has gone into designing modern, relevant engineering degrees. We believe that a vital part of the course delivery is devoted to engagement and experience with industry. With this in mind, there are a number of activities which undergraduates will take part in:

Induction - Siemens
Gas turbine training course
Company meetings tours and presentations
Engineering department meetings and presentations

Summer Placement - Sponsored Students
SITL and wider business units

Industrial Mentoring Scheme
Fully integrated into Staff/Student tutorial group system
Siemens product improvement/development competitions

Projects\Taught Courses - All industrially led
Content specifications, SITL product training lecturers
3rd year individual investigative projects
4th year and MSc research projects

Taught Modules

The School of Engineering at the University of Lincoln offers 3 year BEng and 4 year MEng courses for full-time students in Mechanical Engineering. There are elective options available in the 3rd and 4th years to allow specialisation in Power and Energy and Control Systems.
