Criminal Justice and Mental Health
Dina Gojkovic - Dina’s thesis will form the second evaluation of prison mental health in-reach services in England (the first evaluation was conducted by Brooker et al, 2006). Additionally, it will evaluate prison mental health services in Serbia. The thesis will aim to provide a cross-cultural comparison of mental health services and ideally to provide potential guidelines for future research and actions.

Currently, along with Charlie Brooker and Coral Sirdifield, Dina is also working on updating the Systematic Review of Prison Mental Health and Services (Brooker, et al., 2002).

Steven Hutchinson - Assertive Outreach Nurse and PHD Student (Lincoln).

Kieran Fahy - Kieran Fahy Service Manger and Project Lead Manchester Early Intervention Services - Kieran's thesis is a user outcome focused evaluation of one of the first wave of Early Intervention in Psychosis teams in the UK. It follows on from work by Brooker et al, (2000) that suggested young people who were receiving support from a psychosis service without a youth focus were doing less well than those with established illnesses. It is hoped that this work will show in some detail what kind of outcomes are experienced by service users in a team that is not part of a large research trail.

Kieran is also the current co-ordinator of the First Episode Research Network, (FERN). The principle investigator is Professor Max Birchwood from the University of Birmingham who has a long track record of being a leading figure in Early Intervention research and development.

Further details about FERN can be obtained through the link above or through Emily Earle (FERN R.A) emily.earle@rdash.nhs.uk.

FERN is also supported by Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust, (RDASH) www.rdash.nhs.uk.
