Professor Howard Stevenson is Deputy Director of the Centre for Educational Research and Development and Director of CERD's Doctoral Programmes (PhD/EdD). Prior to joining Lincoln in 2007 he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Leicester, Centre for Educational Leadership and Management. Before that Howard was a teacher in secondary education for 15 years. His research interests focus on both the school andhigher education sectors. These include understanding the formation and development of education policy processes, educational management, school and HE sector labour relations/teacher unions and the investigation of teachers' work/academic labour through labour process analysis.

Howard was co-researcher (with Professor Bob Carter, De Montfort University) on the ESRC funded project ‘Workforce remodelling, teacher trade unions and school-based industrial relations’ (RES-062-23-0034A). He is currently involved in research projects focusing on industrial relations issues in the UK higher education sector (funded by SRHE) and Academy schools (funded by BELMAS).

Howard is an editorial board member of several journals (including Education Administration Quarterly, and Forum) and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Professional Development in Education. He is currently co-editing (with Professor Les Bell) a four-volume reference collection entitled ‘Organizing Public Education’, to be published by Sage in 2013.
