Centre for Clinical and Academic Workforce Innovation

Director: Dr Christine Jackson

Research in the Workforce Innovation Research Centre (WIRC) focuses on workforce innovation and regulation in health and social care which influences national and international policy, translates strategy into implementation and makes a difference to practice.

Professorial and other staff in the Centre work closely with and contribute to the work of the Mental Health Research Centre, the Mental Health and Criminal Justice Research Group and the Centre for Clinical and Academic Workforce Innovation (CCAWI), reflecting the interlocking range of research interests held by associated academic staff.

The research interests of staff include health and social care workforce mapping, clinical academic career pathways for health and social care, health and social care professorial mapping, mentoring and clinical supervision, the regulation of health professions and educational interventions for primary care staff.

At a national level research in the Centre includes development, implementation and evaluation of clinical academic careers for nurses and mental health workers, methodologies to further the understanding of the value of professorial posts in nursing and allied professions and research on the clinical activities of the mental health lecturer workforce.
