COMMUNITY OPERATIONAL RESEARCH UNIT (CORU)
Lincoln Business School

The Community Operational Research Unit (CORU) came to Lincoln in 1998, continuing an initiative started at Northern College by the UK Operational Research Society.

Researchers in CORU work with community members, third sector organizations and their public sector partners on programs that aim to strengthen civil society, improve well-being and support new forms of self-organisation in communities.

Areas of activity and expertise include:

  • Citizenship, Engagement and Empowerment
  • Well-being (for offenders on probation and general healthy living initiatives)
  • Community systems and self-organisation

The ESRC Capacity Building Cluster for Third Sector Research on Community Empowerment and Active Citizenship is hosted within the unit. This is a partnership between Lincoln, Goldsmiths and Manchester Metropolitan Universities. Strong links also exist with the National Take Part Network, CLG and the UK OR Society.
