Lincoln School of Architecture - A key aim of the MRes Art, Architecture and Design is to develop research skills and prepare postgraduate students for careers in academic research.

The course provides students with the concepts, principles and practical knowledge needed to deal with the planning, co-ordination and control of projects from inception to completion.

This is a taught which course takes a broad conceptual approach to the design of communicative environments and engages the student in innovative, interdisciplinary forms of design practice. To achieve this the course integrates design, research and professional studies.

The course is concerned with the changing context of architecture and urban development in the West and in post-colonial countries (developing world). A critical understanding of architecture and urban development from a social, cultural and economic perspective, and provides a useful set of skills that can be applied in community building initiatives, urban regeneration programmes or in development projects.

The programme explores the potential of existing spaces and structures. These form the physical and material context for student’s speculative investigation and the breadth of possible responses, which range from temporary installations through to large-scale interventions, enables the programme to support students form a range of disciplines in the development of their personal practice and related research interests.

The Master of Architecture course is a distinctive, flexible programme of study tailored to accommodate individual research interests and capabilities. It offers students an opportunity to engage in advanced study in architectural design, theory and research.

The Masters of Science in Sustainable Architectural Design is a specialised course which bridges the gap between Architects and Engineers. The course aims to prepare a new breed of Architects who are better equipped to deal with growing global environmental challenges.

The Lincoln School of Architecture has established a new Masters programme in Planning and Urban Design to tackle the shortage of Planners in the East Midlands Region. The course was developed in response to Government concerns about the lack of planning capacity in the East Midlands, particularly the lack of urban design skills necessary to improve towns and cities in the region. This is the only such course offered in the East Midlands.

The course incorporates the processes and techniques employed in management projects and builds on the underpinning knowledge of the Postgraduate Certificate

The Urban Design programme is concerned with the contemporary urban situation and the response of practising designers today.
