Working closely with organisations such as English Heritage,
the National Trust, Historic Scotland and The Churches
Conservation Trust, private and charitable trusts and developers
of historic buildings, the work of Crick Smith has been
commissioned by numerous prestigious bodies. Investigations
include those commissioned by:
- the Royal Palaces, namely Kew Palace and , Hampton Court Palace and Holyrood House for Historic Scotland;
- Government Departments at the Palace of Westminster, The National Gallery, Admiralty Arch and Gates and the Ministry of Defence;
- for notable historic houses such as Kenwood House, Hardwick Hall, Osborne House, Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey and Blickling Hall;
- for local authorities at DH Laurence Childhood Museum, Buxton Opera House, Linley Sambourne House, Lambeth Town hall and Leamington Spa Town Hall and Pump Rooms;
- by hotel and housing organisations at Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and The Great Eastern Hotel Liverpool Street Station;
- for eminent architects and designers such as Sir Terence Conran, Dr. Jonathan Foyle and Ptolemy Dean.
At present their research is instrumental in the conservation of the interiors at Easton Neston, Dyffryn, Willow Road, Chiswick and Queen Anne’s Gate, Belton House and 32 Sidbury Worcester Their investigations at St. Pancras Chamber’s for Manhattan Loft Corporation and Marriot Hotels are proving fundamental; enabling the historic integrity of the building to be retained within the modifications made by the client.
Work with charitable trusts and establishments is ongoing;
training volunteers in the approaches necessary to preserve
their own properties.
Crick Smith’s ground breaking methodologies in the field of
architectural paint research have been recognised in several
conference publications including the Traditional Paint Forum
Conference, Coming Out in their True Colours. British Museum
2001 and An Ideal Client Copenhagen. Conference on Architectural
Paint Research 2005. Crick Smith continue to develop and promote
this relatively new discipline and are currently working towards
hosting the 4th International Architectural Paint Research
Conference, in Lincoln, in 2010.
