The interdisciplinary research undertaken by the Centre for Art Media focuses on cultural identity and perception of place, and the role of media and other drivers in their analysis and development. It draws on the strengths of the Still and Moving Image and Aesthetic Signatures groups, together with the Art History cluster and much of the research undertaken by the Drawing group.
The interdisciplinary Aesthetic Signatures group explores the representation of the landscape, place and cultural identities, while the interdisciplinary Art Media group comprises the work of a number of individuals who are similarly active in other research groupings. The Art History cluster comprises a vibrant group of staff with a strong focus on specific regional features and the impact of land enclosure on the perception and depiction of rural landscape.
The Still & Moving Image group investigates the role of technologies in screen-based practices and dissemination.
The Drawing group is a multi/interdisciplinary grouping that addresses the interdisciplinary nature and multiple contexts and functions of drawing, bringing together the work of Faculty staff, external bodies and other HEIs, UK and abroad. There are currently 1 Professor, 1 Visiting Professor, 1 Reader, 2 Research Fellows and 14 researchers associated with this centre, together with 4 research students. Over the assessment period, researchers have individually achieved external sponsorship in excess of £900K
